Insurance FAQ

Yes. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy recognized by the APA, WHO, and VA. Most major insurance plans cover EMDR when billed as psychotherapy (CPT codes 90834/90837). Your specific coverage depends on your plan's mental health benefits.

Book a free consultation or call us at (617) 286-5581. We'll verify your benefits before your first session so you know exactly what's covered, your copay amount, and any deductible remaining.

You can still work with us. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, accept HSA/FSA cards, and offer self-pay sessions at $165. If we're credentialing with your plan, you can join the notify list and we'll email you the day it goes live.

Yes — insurance requires a clinical diagnosis (such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression) for reimbursement. If you prefer no diagnosis on your record, our private-pay option provides complete privacy with no reporting to insurers.

Most plans cover 20-52 sessions per year for mental health. We verify your specific session limits during the intake process. Research shows most single-trauma EMDR clients see significant improvement in 6-12 sessions.

Yes! Sherly Millan is fully bilingual and provides EMDR therapy in both English and Spanish — with all insurance plans we accept.

Yes! We are now in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. We accept BCBS plans including Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and HMO Blue. Book a free consultation to get started.

Yes! We are now in-network with Aetna in Massachusetts. We accept Aetna HMO and PPO plans. Visit our insurance page to learn more or book a free consultation to verify your specific benefits.

Yes — we are now in-network with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (administered through Point32Health). EMDR is billed as standard outpatient psychotherapy — if your plan covers mental health sessions, it covers EMDR. Sherly will verify your specific benefits during your free 15-minute consultation.

Yes. We are in-network with Cigna / Evernorth (Evernorth administers behavioral-health benefits for Cigna plans). Your plan's mental-health copay or coinsurance applies, and we verify your benefits before you start.

EMDR Unlocked accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna / Evernorth — and MassHealth (Medicaid) insurance plans in Massachusetts. We verify your benefits before your first session.

Yes. We are in-network with MassHealth (Medicaid), and most MassHealth members pay nothing out of pocket for outpatient therapy. We confirm your plan details during the free consultation.

Most Cigna / Evernorth plans in Massachusetts cover EMDR as standard outpatient psychotherapy, billed under behavioral-health benefits. Your copay is whatever your plan charges for an outpatient mental-health visit — commonly $20–$60 per session on HMO/PPO plans, with the deductible applying first on high-deductible plans. We run a benefits check against your specific plan before your first session so the cost is clear upfront.

Almost never. Cigna / Evernorth's behavioral-health benefit lets Massachusetts members self-refer to an in-network therapist for outpatient mental-health care — no PCP referral or prior authorization for routine EMDR. A small number of Cigna HMO products require a referral; we confirm during your benefits check before the first session and flag it upfront if your plan needs one.

Yes. Cigna / Evernorth covers telehealth psychotherapy in Massachusetts at parity with in-person visits — your copay and benefits are the same, and EMDR is billed under the same outpatient psychotherapy codes either way. EMDR Unlocked is telehealth-only, so every session is virtual; clients anywhere in Massachusetts can book without traveling and use their full Cigna / Evernorth in-network benefit.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network with BCBS of Massachusetts. EMDR sessions are billed as standard outpatient psychotherapy, so your regular mental-health copay or coinsurance applies. We verify your exact benefits before your first session.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network with Aetna in Massachusetts, including Aetna HMO and PPO plans. EMDR is covered when medically necessary, billed as standard outpatient psychotherapy under your behavioral-health benefit. We verify your specific Aetna plan benefits before your first session during your free 15-minute consultation, so your copay and coverage are clear upfront.

Yes. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare through Optum Behavioral Health, including UHC Commercial, UHC Medicare Advantage, UHC Community Plan, OneCare, Senior Care Options, and ConnectorCare / Massachusetts Exchange plans. Mass General Brigham Health Plan is also in-network through Optum.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network with Mass General Brigham Health Plan, including the MGB employee plan and MGB commercial plans. MGB Health Plan's behavioral-health network is administered by Optum, which is also where our UnitedHealthcare contract lives — so MGB members get the same in-network access for EMDR at the standard outpatient psychotherapy copay.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network for OneCare members in Massachusetts. OneCare is the state's dual-eligible demonstration plan for adults 21–64 who have both Medicare and MassHealth, administered in our case through UnitedHealthcare. EMDR is covered under standard outpatient mental-health benefits — typically with no copay for dual-eligible members.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network for Senior Care Options (SCO) members. SCO is the Massachusetts dual-eligible plan for adults 65+, administered in our case through UnitedHealthcare / Optum. EMDR is covered as standard outpatient mental-health care — typically with no copay for SCO members. We'll verify your specific benefits during your free consultation.

Yes. EMDR Unlocked is in-network for ConnectorCare plans through the Massachusetts Health Connector marketplace, administered via UnitedHealthcare. EMDR is billed as standard outpatient psychotherapy and is covered. Your copay depends on your ConnectorCare plan tier — we verify your specific cost-share before your first session.

They're sister brands under the same parent company. UnitedHealthcare is the patient-facing health-plan brand — what's printed on your insurance card. Optum Behavioral Health (also called UBH — United Behavioral Health) is the company that actually administers UHC's mental-health network and processes therapy claims. If your card says UnitedHealthcare or Optum, you're in-network with EMDR Unlocked — same contract, same coverage.

Yes. Massachusetts health plans cover telehealth psychotherapy the same way they cover in-office visits, and all EMDR Unlocked sessions are secure video sessions. Your normal copay or coinsurance applies.

Partly — in Florida we're now in-network with Aetna, so Aetna members pay only their plan copay. For other plans we're self-pay ($165 per session) with superbills for out-of-network reimbursement while we complete credentialing with more Florida insurers (UnitedHealthcare/Optum, Cigna / Evernorth, Tricare East). Join the notify list to hear when your plan goes live.
